Introducing Merrilee Zellner, Hostel Owner and Manager

I am originally from Seattle, Washington. After many years of living in various parts of the east coast of the USA and overseas, I settled in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island.
I have traveled solo worldwide throughout most of my adult life, usually staying in hostels. I welcome you to enjoy reading some of the blogs I have written about these adventures.

While managing the HI Boston Hostel in Massachusetts in the early '90's, I frequently visited the nearby resort town of Newport, Rhode Island, and fell in love with it. The high price of accommodations and the wonderful summer activities and festivals that Newport offers, made me realize that a hostel was sorely needed. In 2002 I purchased the historic William Gyles House in downtown Newport and the Newport International Hostel was born.

I welcome our summer staff member, Jody Wilkinson, as the Assistant Manager. Welcome aboard, Jody!

Introducing Jody Wilkinson, Assistant Manager

I am originally from the Great Lake State of Michigan where I spent my summers on the shores of Lake Huron -- active in water sports and boating. Through my international career, I've traveled to over twenty-four countries. I also lived abroad in Germany and England.

Throughout my travels I've visited famous cities, charming villages and historic resort towns such as Cortina and Portofino, Italy; Nice, France; the Costa Brava in Spain and mountain resorts such as Estes Park, Colorado, where I've assisted from time-to-time in the hospitality businesses.

I find the tourism industry exciting and rewarding because it brings people of the world together in unique ways like few other businesses do. I love the imprints these experiences bring into my life.

In addition to my deep love of four-legged furry friends, I enjoy traveling, boating, golf, antiquing, the arts and equestrian activities.
